Walker Avenue Hedge Planting

This homeowner wanted to reclaim an old over grown garden. As you can see, there are no desirable plants and the garden is overwhelmed by brush and weeds. Our plan was to install a hedge that would offer some privacy, require minimal maintenance, and still give the client a line of sight to the main road. We selected cherry laurels for this job because they have a short mature height of about 4 feet, therefore, they would not require frequent pruning. Further more, the are generally easy to grow and have evergreen foliage for privacy in all four seasons.

First, we had to remove all of the brush. After cutting it down, we treated the remaining parts with herbicide to prevent grow back. Large roots and stumps were removed so that we would be able to plant the hedge. Once the area was cleared, we used a shovel to established the boundary of the garden with a clean vertical edge. Plants were spaced evenly and prepped for planting. Before planting, we rotate the plants to make sure that the best looking side is facing outward. Once the cherry laurels were planted, we installed a thick layer of mulch to further suppress new weed growth and retain moisture for the new plantings.
